Open Source Boombox Project |
We hope to empower others by publicly sharing the design of this beautiful-sounding, fun-to-build, and artist-friendly boombox with you, your communities and companies. If you're handy, a maker, techie, gear head, roadie, tinkerer, teacher, woodworker, artist, entrepreneur, marketer, store owner, restauranteur, inventor or whatever... please look into this turn-key open design of an epic battery-powered bluetooth speaker that people love to build and play together, manifesting song, dance, joy and conversation into your world.
Why Open Source?
This project is released under the guidelines set forth in the Open Source Hardware (OSHW) Statement of Principles 1.0.
Open source hardware, as championed by groups like OSHWA, is a radical take on intellectual property and a rethink on how to spread ideas and creations for mutual benefit. We are all in on this way of doing business. It is differently funky and folksy and fits well with our vision.
MAKEBOOMBOXES believes in the additive power of creativity plus collaboration. By open sourcing our product, we hope to gather with similarly inventive people around the joys of making and customizing their own boomboxes, and open up economic opportunity for inventors and makers.
This move not only fosters community around making boomboxes but it's also an invitation to co-invention. More heads are better than one to make this design even better -- potentially leading to improved sound, new and inspiring use cases and add-ons we couldn't have dreamed up ourselves.
What Does it Take to Build Your Own Boombox?
Building your own boombox may seem like a daunting task, but with the complete laser cutting design files, the detailed documentation and bill of materials provided in the Github project repository, it's a doable project step by step.
The biggest barrier is the laser cutting needed. If you don’t have access to a laser cutter, these parts can be ordered from here at makeboomboxes.com or various online laser-cut-to-order services like Panoko or Send Cut Send. If you have access to a laser cutter, then you can cut them yourself with the design files in the project repository.
The other parts, listed in the repository’s bill of materials are the fasteners, wiring/connectors, and OEM electronics parts that make up the kit. Full kits and partial DIY kits are also available here at MAKEBOOMBOXES.com.
With your basic understanding of electronics, some soldering skills, and a passion for creating something unique, this kit is ready to rock
With the MOJOFESTO DIY kit boombox at your fingertips, you can explore different design options, experiment with various components, and truly make this boombox in your own style and with your own functions and add-ons. Whether you prefer a sleek modern design or a retro-inspired look, the possibilities are endless.
So, what are you waiting for? Dive into the world of DIY electronics and start building your very own custom boombox today. Who knows, you may just discover a new passion for tinkering and creating innovative gadgets.
